Lafcarr’s Early Warning sirens were activated in Sabiñánigo this Thursday, June 17, during the first chemical emergency drill carried out in Aragon. An operation of 150 people participated in this exercise, the objective of which was to evaluate the procedures for action in the event of an emergency, the effectiveness of the response organization, and the alarm, warning and communication systems. The activation of the civil protection plans necessary to manage the emergency and the coordination between the Advanced Command Post, located in the Sabiñánigo City Hall, and the Operational Coordination Center, meeting in the 112 Aragón Crisis Room, has also been verified.

In the drill, an application developed by Lafcarr has been successfully tested, which will allow the inhabitants of Sabiñánigo to receive notification of any chemical emergency on their mobile phone seconds.

The alarms went off at 11.00, when they started. to sound the sirens that indicated the chemical emergency in the locality. A fire had previously been recreated at the Ercros factory, without injuries, in which 1,000 liters of trichloroisocyanuric acid had burned. The company’s Self-Protection Plan was activated and, later, the Sabiñánigo External Emergency Plan, setting off the sirens to warn the population of the obligation of confinement.

In the event of a chemical emergency, sirens are the first warning system to the population. They have a characteristic alarm sound that starts in ramp mode, gradually increasing its power. Its sound reaches 85 dB in the areas closest to the sirens and does not drop below 65 dB in the furthest away.

This test concludes the Sabiñánigo Exterior Emergency Plan, which began in 2019 with the installation of three sirens to alert the population in the event of a chemical emergency. The regional executive states that, once the actions in the municipality of Sabiñánigo have been completed, similar actions will be carried out in other locations in the Community.
